The Wilds season 2 has just ended and there going to do a 3rd season. The ask was to create a teaser for the show.
Since the show was a psychological thriller the art director wanted to have an eerie kind of look and feel. The art direction was to have lots of glitches and malfunctioning screens to reflect the true chaos that was in the show. I suggested we use some datamoshing effects to create distorted video and imagery.
We utilized a countdown effect to create excitement and anticipation for something big that was going to happen. Leveraging tension to tease the audience into the announcement of the next season.
I used a plugin called Datamosh 2 from AE scripts for a lot of the effects and would iterate different distortion techniques within the modules. I also animated a countdown using old scratchy film techniques and an animated linear wipe using expressions.
